Adult and Community Learning ‘in the loop’
Issue 24 January 2014
Hello everyone and welcome to ‘in the loop’
This is a weekly bulletin to let you know about all the changes and actions that are being taken to save and strengthen our treasured Adult Learning Service.
Our mission:
We can say ‘hand on heart’ we believe adult learning in Bristol can continue to improve and grow and we are working really hard to make sure that happens!
Things we’ve done this week:
Just to remind everyone that the St Paul’s Learner Forum has a new date.
To hear an update and to share your thoughts with Cllr Barbara Janke and Jane Taylor go along to the Learning and Family Centre on Monday 3 February from 3.45 – 5.00pm
Work is underway to create a new Skills Team which will bring together both the Adult Learning Service and Learning Communities Team. Discussions are underway with the core staff involved and details will be shared following the completion of formal consultation processes.
Meetings are underway to enable better collaborative working with our local partner providers including FE colleges, voluntary and community sector and other learning and employment agencies. We will be the focus of national government attention as we explore whether it is possible to grow learning opportunities at a time of reduced public funding.
And finally a few of our upcoming Saturday courses at Stoke Lodge
On Saturday 1 February you could be doing….. Art history, making your own website, watching French films, discovering Germany, trying some holiday Italian, discovering the Portuguese speaking world, having a taster of South American Spanish, cooking Thai food, tasting white wines of the world or developing your drawing skills for garden design
On Saturday 15 February you could try your hand at ….. Soapstone carving, using facebook, having a little taste of French, watching German films or if you prefer Portuguese films, you could be discovering Italy or maybe Latin America.
What are you waiting for?
