Adult Learning Update – 18.3.20
Dear Learners
Following the amended government advice associated with corona virus and reducing social contact I have been in touch with senior Council staff to work through plans for Adult Learning in this increasingly difficult time.
Senior council officers have made the very difficult decision to close Adult Learning courses from the end of business today (Wednesday) until the end of April. This is following the government advice to avoid social gatherings and contact for the coming weeks.
This is not a decision we have made lightly, as we know this will impact staff and learners.
We will be asking your tutors to prepare home working activities for learners to replace the final face to face sessions running up to the Easter break.
We will be working with our tutors over the coming weeks to consider if it is possible for courses that were due to start after Easter to continue and if so in what format. We will, for example be exploring online and distance learning arrangements.
Over the coming weeks we will be confirming some of the details around practicalities like amended start dates and refund opportunities so please bear with us as we work though these complex arrangements.
These are extreme times and unlike anything we have experienced before.
This will be a difficult time for many of us and I encourage you to continue to maintain contact with your communities and fellow learners electronically and over the phone. We will be actively sharing updates including information about local support networks and advice agencies over the coming weeks.
We will continue to take Council advice and meet regularly to monitor and respond to the changing situation. Please check our website for news and updates over the coming weeks.
Kind regards
Jenny Wilkes
