In The Loop – June 2020
I do hope you are all safe and well and looking forward to a (cautious) easing of some lockdown restrictions. I wanted to share a little update on what is happening at the moment and what Adult Learning has planned.
Current Courses:
At the moment the majority of our courses are continuing to run remotely. Remote and online learning has been working well for many of you. We have received some fantastic compliments from learners who are really enjoying taking part in their online courses and continuing their learning.
Our Tutors:
Lots of you have also been asking if tutors are still being paid and I can confirm that tutors are being paid in full, for all courses that are running or that would have run this term. Our tutors have been amazing at learning and trying out all these different ways of working and whilst most of us would rather be face to face, I am extremely grateful to them for their efforts in this challenging time.
Summer Schools:
Although some summer schools will continue to be delivered online we are hoping that some of our July and August summer schools may be able to run in person. We will be offering these with reduced numbers to allow for social distancing. We also have some new language summer schools on offer. All our latest summer school information can be found here.
Autumn Term:
We are starting to plan for the autumn term. We are looking at lots of different options including some online provision and social distancing measures. There is a lot to consider to make sure that learners and staff are kept safe and well and that of course remains our priority. Whilst we are hopeful that some courses can run on a face to face basis we are considering the overall capacity of the Stoke Lodge building and some of our classrooms carefully.
2020/21 Course Guide:
We will not have our traditional A4 paper course guides over the summer (most years it would have been at the printers by now!) but we will have all our planned courses listed online and are looking at other ways to collate and share this information. At this stage we don’t anticipate any autumn courses will be confirmed or advertised until August.
And finally…
On a different note I would like to remind you to have a look at our #CoffeeBreakClasses for some short, fun and free activities to try out. You can find them all here.
I also wanted to share with you my reflections on the recent Black Lives Matter protests. Racial equality continues to be an area where for most of us, there is much to learn and understand. You can see my personal reflection here. www.bristol courses.com/2020/06/black-lives-matter-a-personal-reflection/
Stay safe and take care
