New Year Traditions
Do you bang pots and pans at midnight on New Years Eve? or maybe you open the back door at midnight (to let the old year out) and the front to let the new year in.
Here are a few New Year traditions you might not know…
- In Denmark you might smash a plate on a friends doorstep to bring good luck through the year.
- In Brazil eating lentils (which represent money) means good fortune for the year ahead.
- In Spain you might eat a grape for each ‘bong’ of the clock at midnight.
- In Romania people may dress up as dancing bears to chase away evil spirits.
- In Greece you might hang onions on your front door to invite prosperity into your home.
- In Columbia people take an empty suitcase out for a year filled with travel
- Japan and South Korea ring bells to signal the new year.
