Subject: Sewing
My early enthusiasm for making clothes was ignited when my grandmother allowed me to take her tailored suits apart. I had my first sewing machine at the age of ten; by fourteen I was following the latest fashions and making my own clothes. I went on to gain a City & Guilds in Fashion and Design and Adult Teaching, which further enhanced my skills. I was able to use this extended knowledge to earn money making wedding dresses, specialist clothes and soft furnishings. I have carried on making clothes and soft furnishings all throughout my life, including making most of my four children’s clothes when they were young. I was fortunate to work for a designer making up her creations. Making bags and lingerie are my most recent passions. I have also had a career in care services, which has given me the skills to share my experience and knowledge in a supportive and encouraging way and I am excited to do this.
